Jet / Even More Light Than Shade

Jet / Even More Light Than Shade Review

And finally, in celebration of the 32nd anniversary of the release of Jet's debut album 'Jet' on CBS, here it comes again. Re-mastered from the original 1/4" stereo master tape, which has been propping open a sticky window at the offices of Sony Music for over a quarter of a century, the band's eponymous release is now available on CD for the first time. The band's album was produced by (Queen, Foreigner, the Cars, Cheap Trick, etc. etc.) producer Roy Thomas Baker and was, until now, the only RTB production not available on CD. Finally convinced by a worldwide campaign of terror and smutty remarks about Australians, and eager to make amends for their egregious error, Sony Music have seen fit to license the material to RPM Records, an offshoot of Cherry Red Records.

Play to Kill

Play to Kill Review

Northwest rockers Jet City Fix make some rude noise on their debut, kicking out a mix of straight rock and glam-influenced punk. With a commitment to garage aesthetics and rowdy lifestyles, the quintet sounds like Rocket From the Crypt without a horn section or the Supersuckers without the rockabilly traces. "Dumb Luck" combine punk and loud emo—it sounds like Green Day covering a Weezer tune. The band’s stripped-down approach and fluency with a variety of styles feels both immediate and well-rehearsed; we'll see how well it ages. For now, the obvious fun they had recording Kill is enough to make it appealing. --Matthew Cooke

Jet Set Radio Future

Jet Set Radio Future Review

The street action game is back, all souped-up. The music is used as the backdrop to the game's animated 'Manga DImension' polygon-based image. In the game's universe, the music is supposed to be coming from pirate radio broadcasting. No wonder this stylish music doesn't sound at all like a game soundtrack. Includes booklet. 2002.

In This Life

In This Life Review

2008 release of In This Life by Canadian band, Jet Black Stare. Jet Black Stare are rockers! Back in early 2007, Rod Black found the perfect songwriting companion in fellow Vancouver, Canadian songwriter producer Jeff Johnson. 'Give us 15 minutes and we can hammer out a song. We have that rare, special chemistry' says Rod gloating on Jeff. This harmonious partnership set the groundwork for the birth of a band along with Shane Hayes on bass, Flip Freig on guitar, Dave Muselman on guitar, and Dan Swinimer on drums which created the perfect vessel for Rod's storytelling. 'I just want to be as a true as I can be to the song, and for me every song has to tell a story.' Rod is a miracle survivor of a tragic car accident where he was pronounced dead yet he came back to life and walked out of the hospital within hours.
